CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) is the practice of using analytics and user feedback to improve the conversion rate performance of your website. CRO can be used to improve any metric or KPIs (key performance indicators) on your website that is important for your business.

In short, it means that CRO helps you (the business owner) understand what people are doing while on your website. It helps you understand if your website is working for you and is acting as a proper funnel for your business. Ideally helping you understand where your web visitors drop off and convert.

CRO works by doing A/B testing. For example, in month A, a developer would manipulate the website into a specific way and review the analytics. In month B, the developer would then make a few adjustments and review the analytics. The developer would continue going back and forth adjusting the CTAs (Calls to Action), color combinations, images, contact form styles, etc. until the analytics show that people are using and reacting to your website the way you want them to (this is the part that you say “OH, that makes sense”).
